Our kid took the PST cold as a baseline at then started studying. Khan academy and lots of practice tests. 1270 on the PSAT. 1510 on the SAT. Good enough for her.

we are in the same place - 1120. how long after was SAT?

My kid went from 1120 PSAT (11th grade) to 1540 SAT.

My kid went from 1120 PSAT (11th grade) to 1540 SAT.

My kids took the SAT in August and the PSAT (11th grade) in October.

Kid 1: 1560 SAT, 1450 PSAT
Kid 2: 1540 SAT, 1470 PSAT

+1. AP courses can absolutely help with the verbal. Even APUSH can help.

Unfortunately, there's nothing between June and late August, so I'd go with Aug and Sept.

If math is the problem, get additional tutoring in the summer before test to improve the math part.

a 1350 is more like a 1440 on SAT fwiw. so getting to a 1500 is doable with tutoring and dedicated practice.

Theoretically, there should be growth between fall junior year, on the one hand, and spring junior year/fall senior year on the other.

The test is not terribly consistent of late. I would suggest planning for more than one test date.

. 11th grade. We us prep matters and she likes her tutor. My older kid got a 1450 first practice without prep and then studied on his own so this is our first time working with a tutor.

Has he done any scored practice tests? I think Kaplan offers that.

Moving up 100 points from the PSAT after working with a tutor is a pretty reasonable goal.

What grade? What does the tutor think? How good is the tutor?

My kid has been studying since August for the SAT with a tutor (8 sessions) and scored a 1350 on the PSAT. I’m wondering if he’s likely maxed out around this range or still has room to grow. He'd love to get a 1500 but not sure we should keep paying for a tutor or spending a tremendous amount of time here instead of grades.
