OP here with an update.

I think my lower back just had a freak out with the new relaxin in my body and got locked up into some bad positions. I have hypermobility, so this isn’t totally outside of my medical history, but I think I was struck by how fast everything came on. What happened in 24 hours with no physical trauma (stiffness, loss of motion, overall weakness) would have taken a couple days or more without the relaxin. I have also gotten in really good shape in the last year, so I just haven’t had much pain in general.

I used a gel ice pad and took a hot shower yesterday and started to feel better. I also was able to make a 30 minute appointment with my massage therapist, who released a lot of the muscles that were overreacting to the change.

I am still sore around my lower back and hips, and feel weak in my core, but I am regaining some strength. I can roll over to my side in bed without assistance, I can stand up out of bed without finding a hard surface to push myself against (but there is still pain for a moment when standing).

I’m hoping that by posting this resolution I’ll help somebody else in the future.

ER in a large hospital like Georgetown can get specialists in. If it's nerve compression you need it stopped asap.

This sounds like a nerve issue though. So they need to figure out what that could be. GBS is also a possibility in pregnancy.

This is OP. I agree that it feels very much like a nerve issue. The emergency department can’t do much about it, though, right? Wouldn’t I need to seek out a specialist?

This isn't normal. If you can't get a doctor to take you seriously, go to the ER.

Yeah, that’s why I went to the doctor yesterday. This seems very not normal. I am worried something hit a nerve.

I’m wondering if anyone has had a similar experience:

Yesterday, at 9w1d, I was sitting in my office at work when I started to get the first sign of slight back pain. This is my second pregnancy to progress this far, so I figured it is just my body releasing some relaxin and things will just be a bit looser feeling from here on out. Uncomfortable, but it’s pregnancy, so what are you going to do?

Over the next couple of hours it started progressing to the point where I could barely stand up without pulling myself by my desk. I called my OB’s office, they advised me to see my PCP. I went to my PCP, no sign of infection or clear signs of miscarriage (at this point). They gave me Tylenol and sent me on my way with instructions to seek emergency care if I see certain signs.

Now I can barely sit up without leaning on a support. It feels like I have lost much of my core strength around my lumbar spine in less than 24 hours. I am trying to do stretches like cat-cows, but I can’t make my way past a flat back to do the cow, I can’t only do the cat.

I am terrified that I won’t be able to move around for the rest of my pregnancy (if I go to term). Prior to this, I was biking 15 miles a day a couple times a week and could stand from a sitting position with my arms extended into the air in front of me.

Anybody else have a similar experience? How did it turn out?
