Try a cheap/on sale pair of each brand and figure out which one your child prefers. I have one kid who prefers Arena, and one who prefers Speedo.

DS can’t wear the team jammer due to big belly, they recommended really tight fit but DC hates it. I got swim brief and DC was little embarrassed to wear during meet, so I finally found square leg swim brief instead and it’s been good. We usually get boy swim jammer in the or arena brand, the Speedo ones was too thin and teared apart in several months.

maybe you've already asked your kid, but try to elicit what he didn't like. Too small? Too big? i know it can be a pain to drag the answers out of their mouth. in the 12U category, there can be some variation among the brands. A size 22 for Speedo may fit differently than a 22 for Arena. Sometimes your kids is just in between sizes.

DS struggled with jammers in a meet recently, feels the team one isn't properly fitting him.

I'd like to get him a new pair for a few non-championship meets -- so no need for U12 compliant fake tech suits, just a decent regular pair for racing. Any recs?
