If the SES position was formally eliminated, then the laid off incumbent can file for forced early retirement. There are specific OPM rules about this. Everything has to be documented.

The multiple months of admin leave could be related to DRP.

No, you're thinking of political appointees. Lots of SES are career.

If you're RIF'ed under the normal RIF procedures, you will be entitled to 1-2 months of "notice" that the RIF is coming, and then upto 1 year of your pay, as per severance calculations (which you can find under the OPM website). The severance will be doled out monthly like it's a paycheck. If you go back to the federal govt, the severance will stop immediately, of course. This holds true for GS and SES level officers.
If you're fired for cause, then no severance.

Did you receive any kind of severance? 30 days? 60? None?

We are a family with one SES who is early 50s and will not have 20 years.

Any info on your experience is really appreciated - we are trying to plan financially for the next 6-12 months.
