I don't understand the problem. Are people keeping/ expecting to use the physical card? I add them to my apple wallet upon receipt, and spend them from there. It's 2025 y'all.

Also, gift cards are great when you want to say "I feel obligated to give you something but don't know you/ don't care enough to put any thought into it."

How much do you have? Buy yourself a splurge gift or take your family and friends out to dinner.

They are such a pain. My friend’s work gave it as a gift and it was 1k. Which is very nice, but it took her ages to spend down the Amazon balance after transferring it there.

Yes, but then someone will post they never buy from Amazon or can't buy organic vegan microlocal plastic free water there.

I use them to buy Amazon or Target gift cards and apply to my online purchases. Be careful, they expire pretty quickly.

I add them to my apple wallet and then use them instead of my credit card.

Most stores will let you use 2 cards. Hey if they are years old they may have expired.

This is my approach as well. Add the gift card to Amazon account as a payment source. Then add to your Amazon gift card/wallet by the full value of the card, using the card as the payment. Once you confirm the amount is added to your Amazon gift card balance, trash the Visa gift card.

Safeway is the answer. Just run it through and it will use up the balance and bill you for the rest if any is due.

I just buy something from Amazon as close to the limit as I can. I really hate these and wish people would stop giving these inconvenient cards as gifts.

I have accumulated several visa gift cards over the years and I never use them because they're not in my wallet / I don't think of them / it feels awkward when they don't cover the balance.

Other than just getting better about carrying them ... is there a better way? Can I load them into my Amazon account or a Google wallet?
