I doubt The Pitt will hold up in the same way, but it scratches the same itch. I'm glad it spends less time on personal drama outside of the hospital.

I loved the first several seasons of ER, but it really sagged in the middle when most of the original actors departed. The last season was pretty good. The problem with long-running medical shows is that they run out of ideas and have to resort to increasingly fantastical plot stories. Plus, they killed off so many doctors in bizarre ways (death by falling helicopter, lol). In real life that would be a cursed hospital where no doctor would want to work.

I do really like The Pitt, but I think it would be a little more believable if it took place over a week/month than a single day.

LOL - we were all glued to ER when it first aired and I fondly look back at the blissful days without cell phones when nobody knew where you were or could reach you until you got home to the landline!! And people actually had to talk to each other and couldn't hide behind a text or email.

I watched The Pitt too and enjoyed it very much.

The Pitt was supposed to be an ER spinoff called "Carter" but Michael Crichton's widow would not give permission to use his intellectual property. That is why Noah Wiley is playing an ER doctor with a different name and backstory.

Wyle, not Wiley. But, yes, he was supposed to play John Carter but they couldn't get the rights to do a spinoff.

I recently rewatched the first few seasons and it’s still really good!

Me, too. I've really enjoyed it, more than I thought, but I'm currently stuck in season 9. I think the same thing happened when I was watching it live! Feeling less invested in the current characters etc.

I did this about 10 years ago. Another fun thing is the guest stars. Basically everyone who became famous during ER’s run started out as a guest star on ER.

And this show is such a representation of the times…

There is a case of AIDS in almost every single episode. It’s wild.

Also the technology. wow.

It’s crazy watching some of these older shows in a totally different generation.
