Try the AAU track and field site for a list of local teams.

NP.

Are there track clubs for high schoolers just for summer, since HS XC/track is three seasons?

We are located in DC. I thought track clubs were for those who were really good. Kind of like soccer travel club.

The 400 is considered the hardest race in track.

I would have her focus on getting stronger if she wants to be a sprinter. Also, work on flexibility. Adding strength training and yoga can make a huge difference.

We will definitely check it out! I've hear that 400 is really hard, that's why she wants to focus on the 200 first. For strenght training and yoga, can she do that at home or does she need to go to the gym?

I typically ran a few days a week, with one day every week being designated for track work. I'd do a mile of warmup and striders and a mile of cool down. In the middle, 3 miles of varying intervals. Sometimes 10-12 400's with recovery in between. Sometimes 1600/2x800/4x400 with recovery. Etc. or a bunch of 400s, some 200s, some hundreds. Outside of the track, proper nutrition, hydration and good sleep are crucial. And if there's excess weight, that does make you slower. My daughter also does some weight lifting to build lower body muscle and core strength.

10-12 400's sounds like a lot but if that's what it takes she will do it! She's very committed and really wants to get fast. It kind of breaks my heart how bad she wants to be fast and good at this. She is 5'4 and 95-100 pounds.

I’m sure YouTube has a wealth of info and workouts for explosive movement which will help her get quicker. I have never search for this so I don’t know, but I assume you could find some female olympic runners who share info.

She has tried long distance including Cross country one year but absolutely hates it. She really wants to get good at 200 and maybe even 400.

This. Lots of people want to be sprinters, but most of them are not meant to be sprinters. She should be open to longer distances.

OP here again, she also isn't looking to run varsity of course but she really loves the team vibe and how they all support each other.

My daughter has been doing track and field in school for 2 years (she only went to all the meets 1 of the years.) She does short and mid distance (50, 100, 200) and loves it. She really wants to get better though. She says she's sad that she is one of the worst on her team and really wants to train and not always come last or second to last in all her races. How can she train for 200m and/or 100m. Please give any tips or training workouts! She is 14 by the way and a freshman and really wants to train before tryouts.
