Random? She's going to medical school! That's the least random reason I've ever heard of to move states.

Also, does your home state have restrictive health care laws? Many doctors need and want to learn how to care for women, and they can't learn how to do that in red states. They don't want to practice watching women DIE in the ER. They want to learn how to save their lives.

Moving to attend school sounds like a pretty clear reason, I wouldn’t call that random. You’re allowed to worry, but your daughter is an adult and allowed to choose where she wants to live.

People move countries and continents for love, career, money and adventure ... or to get away from other people. Do you still live with your parents?

Your worry is normal but if this is the only or best school she was accepted at, she had to. Also she can use some independence. If she likes you and your town, she'll be back if she found residency or job here.

We’re in same boat .. so excited for child.

It's so normal to do this for med school, and presumably she's in her 20s, done with college and will be just fine.

I mean you go where you get into med school.

And just wait- residency is even less your decision than med school. You go where you get placed.

Many people move away for college as well as grad school. Was she near home for college?

Yeah it's worrying she is going to medical school when she could have gotten a job near home as a server or bartender.
If you aren't kidding OP and think this is "random" you do need help.
Congratulations to your DD.

Going to medical school doesn't seem like a "random" reason to change states.

So you live near all of your family OP? You never left them/your hometown?

Yes, it's totally normal to be worried. If, after the initial transition, you find this negatively impacting your life (trouble sleeping, rumination, intrusive thoughts, inability to enjoy activities), you may want to talk to a professional.

Do you remember being a young adult? The freedom is wonderful. I moved all over the country in my 20s. Lived in new places, met new people, tried different jobs, learned about myself. It was a wonderful time of exploration and self discovery.

A ship in the harbor is safe. But that's not what ships are built for.

Give your daughter a big hug, wish her luck, stay in touch, and try and see this experiences through her lens of excitement, rather than your lens of fear. And congrats on raising a smart, independent young woman!
