ED obviously makes EA/RD harder, I think. As my kid said when she heard they were adding ED: “oh well.” Disappointing, but not disappointing enough to forego the opportunity to apply broadly. She applied EA.

I expect the student body will become somewhat richer and somewhat lower scoring. That’s the basic trade off of the ED process.

UVA has ED and they are doing just fine. Umich isn’t going to lower their standards.

It doesn’t “screw them over,” because they could also have applied ED.

Also, PP is correct. Michigan totally favors legacy kids.

Michigan favors legacy kids, but I wonder if there will be as much of a difference now that ED is an option. Their OOS yield is pretty low and admitting legacies were a way to boost it (more likely to attend). Now OOS kids can clearly demonstrate strong interest.

At least at the top public in MoCo, the Bethesda magazine showed that Michigan had the highest yield out of all the public universities, 45%, higher than even UMCP, UVA, UNC, Berkeley, etc

ED'd?!?!?! Not EA + ED? Wow.

I'm the poster you're responding to and I was told ED but who knows.

This isn't true, they have tons of seats. Generally at each of the top high schools in MoCo they accept like 10 students.
