I have friends who do this every year (the dc is friends with mine). They love it and start planning months in advance.

My dc has zero interest lol and picks their own outfit. I went in a 'Bluey' halloween tshirt from walmart haha.

love it... but my kids are tiny (oldest is 3 and loves to match parents and baby). i'm sure when she's older she will no longer want to wear matching pjs/dresses/costumes with us and that's okay!

Yeah everyone should have at least 2 costumes every year.

In my 13 years as a parent, we did his once, per request of the two oldest kids. Very fun! They haven’t wanted to do it deli de though.

A lot of times these costumes are clearly orchestrated entirely by the mom, you can tell the dad is wearing what he has been instructed to wear regardless of his feelings or opinions on the matter, and the theme has been chosen in large part to enable mom to wear what she wants.

Examples:

Mom is Cruella Deville, kids are Dalmatian puppies, dad is some character no one remembers the name wearing a distinctive hat.

Mom is Maleficent, kids are sleeping beauty and the prince, dad is in full makeup and carrying an oval picture frame as "the mirror."

Mom is Dorothy, kids are munchkins, dad is either the cowardly lion or the tin man.

Mom is Snow White, kids are dwarves, dad is the prince.

And on and on. I see these every year. Even when they are well executed, all I can think is that the family must get so tired of their lives revolving around mom's instagram plans.

I think it's cute! We were originally going to all go as Kpop Demon Hunters characters, but DD10 changed her mind and wanted to go as something else. If the kids are into it, go for it, but if they're going to be embarrassed, then don't.

Some kids enjoy it. Some want to do their own thing.

I think it's cute when others do it but wouldn't do it myself. I found it was good for my kids to sort out wha they wanted to be on their own, and a chance for individual expression. Especially for my shy, bookish kid, it was a chance for her to come out of her shell a bit because she demonstrated her interests through her costumes. Some of them were super nerdy and required an explanation, but it was what she wanted and helped other kids get to know her better. They'd see her dressed as Ada Lovelace, be like "uh, who are you?" and then they'd remember that costume and associate it with her for years. While I think family themed costumes might have been cute, I'm glad we didn't do them because of how it worked out for my kids.

It’s a yay for me if the kids are into it. We stopped when my oldest was 6 and my middle was 4 because they both wanted to do separate different things. We did have fun with it when they were little though

Saw a lot of these this year, including on families with older kids which surprised me. My kids always had very specific ideas of what they wanted to be for halloween and would never have done this, but I know kids are different, families are different. What do people think about this?
