Op here, my kid is in 11th grade. I have looked into Fusion, and am still considering, but I was hopeful that they would return to their school/regular life. I was waiting to see if that happened, but now that we are so miserable with this curriculum I am taking this weekend to try to figure out what to do.

OP...What grade is your DC in and how many classes needed for graduation?

If your child is a senior and only needs a few core classes, I would check with Fusion. They do in person and (I think) virtual lessons. Their curriculum matches up with Virginia standards, so your child will get the credit after successfully passing the course. It is very expensive, but if you are only looking at a couple of courses, it might be doable. Or you could use fusion for the classes that are the most difficult.

So sorry you are going through this. I am surprised FC does not provide homebound teachers anymore.

My child does school through Acellus Academy and they have the ability to do dual enrollment with NOVA. Acellus is accredited. It is entirely asynchronous and self-paced, so as a PP noted, I do have to keep her on pace. We really like the flexibility for my kid. At the HS level, there is a wide range of courses, including a standard diploma track all the way up through AP classes (though you have to schedule the AP test through your local school). Because Acellus operates more like a homeschool than a virtual school at home (like VV), students generally only need to spend 2-3 hours per day doing school work rather than an entire 7 hour school day.

I will reach out and make my feelings known after I take care of my situation, but surely changing from an actual teacher checking in and providing services to a crappy online module of slides would be known to be worse. It was done for saving $$$$$$.

I was originally told by Fcps that unless I withdrew my kid, they couldn't do full time VV. I was trying to get them back in (still would) but cannot continue with the garbage mix of edmentum and "figure it out yourself" that I am in now.

Op here my kid has 504/homebound- who did you talk to do this. I think this might be a good first step. One of my biggest problems is that no one seems to know who is in charge of this or who to ask about it.

Thank you

And, I am honestly disgusted with FCPS for pushing Edmentum for kids who are already struggling. EVERYONE knows it is garbage.

FCPS paid for my kid with an IEP to take classes at home through Virtual Virginia. The classes were 10000% better than Edmentum trash.

PP here. We have been happy with Fusion Academy (Nova Tysons location) full time in person, and I think they might have some virtual classes your child could take part time as a homeschooler. I am not sure about this since we do not take the part time classes, but it might be worth talking to them.

Excel high school is accredited, online and asynchronous. You can start at any time.

That said, be careful - if a student is really struggling, it is very hard to motivate them to self-pace their way to high school. Ideally someone who is not you is holding them accountable.

Please contact HEAV - they can help advise you on what to do and what you need to file. And yes, you can do this at any time, for any reason, and it does not have to be accredited.

There are a number of Facebook groups for homeschooling in Northern Virginia that are much more helpful than what you are likely to find here.

Good luck - I’m sorry you all are struggling and hope things get better.

You can pull out to homeschool at any time. As for online classes, I am not sure what is accredited and available to start mid year asynchronous.

I'm desperate. My kid is on a combo of Edmentum and homebound with no support at all. It isn't working and Edmentum is a nightmare. It is making a terrible home life even worse.

Who can I talk to about this who can help me find options. I'm so disheartened. So down, so upset.
