Is it time yet to change the focus to the Capital? (oops, MCPS Central Office and BOE)

To be clear, NOT advocating for what happens in the series. But what can the people do to express their displeasure at how Boundary Study and Regional Model (Program Analysis) are developing? Or how to make change happen? MCPS/BOE keep changing the terms.

Who is Katniss, Peeta, Gale and Primrose in mcps' edition?

We need a Katniss

I agree that the way things are done often pits neighborhoods and schools against each other. This is happening right now by combining the boundary study with the regional programs model.

Please consider signing the petition to ask MCPS to SLOW DOWN the academic program rollout and focus on the boundary study and CIP instead.

750+ signatures in less than a week.

Piney Branch Elementary vs. Sligo Creek Elementary (the latter is being closed to used as a holding school for the former)

Whoever the MCCPTA CIP chair is blew it. Pitting schools against each other isn't helpful - everyone should have had at least one consistent message, instead, it was all over the place, every school for themselves and we end up with this clusterf*ck

The new programs are a joke as there is no funding or more staff. If anything, there will be staffing decreases, which leads to less classes. This is not equity. Schools shouldn't bother to fight against each other as they aren't really getting anything more than a fancy title.

Attend Monday’s council budget meeting and give feedback that council should not increase funding for MCPS and its inequitable regional proposal:

The County is in the early stages of formulating the FY27 operating budget. County Executive Elrich is required to submit a recommended budget to the County Council by Monday, March 16, 2026. The Council will then have two months to review the budget. It must adopt a final budget no later than June 1. The FY27 operating budget will go into effect on July 1.

“I urge every resident to participate in these discussions; your feedback shapes our future,” said County Executive Marc Elrich. “We host these community conversations to garner input and feedback on how tax dollars are spent. We gain valuable insights from these conversations that help guide our decisions and priorities for the upcoming fiscal year. The budget reflects our community’s goals and values. With one forum in each of the five regions of the County, along with conversations conducted in multiple languages, there are multiple opportunities to participate and be heard.”

The Community Conversations are scheduled as follows:

MCPS Educators, Parents, and Students Community Conversation. Monday, Nov. 3. 7-8:30 p.m. Carver Educational Services Center, Auditorium, 850 Hungerford Drive, Rockville.

The "community uproar" has to be sustained and cost MCPS something. People can't let up or just decide to play nice because they like their principal or don't want to be seen as disagreeable.

alternatively, there are too many moving parts of MCPS as it is a behemoth, so the best bet as individuals is to pursue what's best for your child/family without attempting to steer the Titanic.

The only thing that might make them change course at this point is some damning press coverage. Maybe something detailing how this plan will increase resources for wealthy schools.
