Basically:

Competitive schools always look deeper than that.

Non-competitive schools don’t need to look deeper, because his GPA will be high enough as it is.

He will be fine - the official grading transcript will show both schools, your son will mention the change of schools in an essay or as others have suggested "additional info" sections and if possible, you can get letters of recommendation from each place.

This is a good use of the "additional information" section. He can explain why he moved and how the grading systems are different.

He will write he came to public in 11th grade and prior to 11th, he was in private etc..

My HS Junior is transferring from a DC Private to a DC Public. His grades are solid at the private school but he will be coming in to a High School where many kids GPAs are quite a bit higher. I expect he do well this year and next but cumulative GPA will be low in comparison to the rest of his peers for college applications. Does anyone have insight as to how this works when the transcript is put together? I have a message into the counsellor but all of the parts are moving at once so I'm not sure I will have all of the answers before the transfer is finalized. I'm nervous to make the move and then realize that college outcomes will be negatively impacted, which I feel like they might be.
