Sadly, I've decided it's indicative of a moral failure. Every person I've ever known to 'switch media' has had an issue with the truth. They get an email and decide to call and never follow up in writing. No traceability; no accountability.

If you email me because you want some kind of information from me then I will use the route I deem easiest/most efficient to respond to you, which may or may not be your preferred communication mechanism.

Sometimes it’s easier to talk to someone over the phone in the event the response might lead to more questions. If you seriously feel like someone is avoiding a “paper trail,” then send them an email after the fact with a summary of the call.

You sound OCD. That's ok. Just make it clear to people in your message to contact you in a certain manner.

I am with you OP. Relatedly, do teachers have something against replying to emails? I will email them *at their request* and I never get an email back. I would be fine with a group email or whatever, but if you ask me to email you with info and you never, ever respond, I start to wonder if I sent it to the wrong address.

I generally agree that you should contact someone the way they contacted you, but I also decide how to respond based on how important the message is. I had someone from my kid’s school phone me on a weekend night with a completely unimportant and non-urgent issue…they got an email on Monday. Likewise, if you text me that you’re having some kind of urgent crisis, I’m going to call you.

If you don't ask me a question or ask me to call you back, I don't feel the need.

You can’t control that. I personally can’t stand cold calls. If you call me out of the blue, I’ll text you. Emails are easy - you could request they respond to the email to keep all info in one place, that makes sense. But they may not comply.
