Not 1960. But started later than our country's most renowned colleges:
"The first SUNY branch is SUNY Potsdam, established in 1816 as the St. Lawrence Academy. While the State University of New York (SUNY) system was officially formed in 1948, it incorporated pre-existing institutions like SUNY Potsdam, which has the longest history as a member of the SUNY system."

Christopher Newport University - 1960 as a two year branch of W&M; 1977 gained independence; 1992 became a university

Old Dominion University - 1930 extension of W&M; 1962 granted independence as Old Dominion College.

George Mason University - 1957 Northern VA branch of UVA. 1972 gained independence as George Mason College
