The Conn kid we know was artsy, triple majored in English, Theatre, and Dance. She was pretty bubbly and involved in high school in theatre, sports, and leadership. The Bowdoin kids we know are all outdoorsy, some more environmentally focused/conscious than others and are slightly quieter or reserved but in a way that reflects thought and contemplation. They were outgoing and well-rounded in high school, especially in sports, and had diverse academic interests, from politics, math, biology, languages, etc. Bowdoin has especially strong Environmental science programs and these students wanted to take advantage of that.

Connecticut College will have a much larger feel and with a national championship in basketball a lot of school spirit.

CT College closer from DMV if that is where you are located. Harder to get to ME.

I have a kid at Conn and a senior who loves Bowdoin. They’re not that different. Bowdoin has more money, so some of the resources (food, dorms, facilities) are better.

Do not recommend an ED application to any “significant reach.” Should really be high Target/low reach. More than low reach nd you are wasting an application — and your ED card.

Boy or girl? There are significantly more females at Conn. The kids I know really enjoy both schools.

I think at Bowdoin the caliber of the students will be higher, which can make a real difference in the classroom and overall vibe. It’s an impressive school. That said, I’ve heard great things about Conn which has a lovely campus too. They are both places where students really know their professors and study broadly.

I think part of the decision could come down to how eager your daughter is for this process to be over. It’s such a slog! If she wants to wait it out, ED to Bowdoin as Conn is still likely in Regular. Or - ED to Conn, buy the sweatshirt, and enjoy the rest of senior year!

Bowdoin: friendly, gets excited knowing Mr everyone and likes it very tight knit, outdoorsy and adventurous, athletic, and into the environment is probably the perfect fit.
