What is your state flagship? A lot of amazing bio research occurs at state universities, including UNC, UMass Amherst, Cal, UCLA, UCSD, etc. and it will be cheaper than paying $75k to USC, which is known for business and acting (and not STEM).

$20K off of $96K still leaves you $76K a year out of pocket. There are a lot of schools with good bio departments that are a lot cheaper than that.

Merit scholarships are moving to the wayside along with EBT and subsidized housing. If you can’t afford college they should get a job for several years and save up. Or enroll in community college.
