I do this. Just marked up 2 separate kids ED (UChicago and Northwestern) full Common Apps since Sunday - including essay comments (extensive).

It takes a LOT of time to do this well and do all of the research for underlying suggestions for the supplemental mentions. Even suggested new major choices for one and new minor for the other.

I’d also rather not advertise on here so if you want folks to reach out to you, I’d suggest you have a burner email for consultants to contact you?

Will let her know to post here if interested. I already passed on the college kid idea which she seems thrilled by! of course she’d get much more from a professional, but she wants to keep costs down.

Kind of insulting unless you find a kind who is naive as to the price of app reviews.

I wouldn't expect a friend to charge market rate!

Supplementals are fun. Yet it can be a pita to actually get them finished. Agreed, nov 1 deadline should be Nov 3 this year.

I have reviewed her kid’s essays, activities lists and honors but had asked that everything be done by this past Friday. She thought I was going to manage the entire process and I’ve pushed back when she has brought that up. I’m only here to help with 3 sections and I have repeatedly made that clear. Now she wants a pdf review that I refuse to do — because of something her husband said that makes me think they will blame me if everything goes wrong. I’m washing my hands off this. No good deed ever goes unpunished!

You could say..."I will review and give a few suggestions. And I will tell you if I think it's drastically off-track. But I will respect what the applicant has decided to present."

I would do it if I thought people weren't expecting me to "fix" problems like mom secretly believes an essay is terrible but doesn't want to say so.

Is she asking you to do more than copy edit? I would do that for a friend for free. It's too late to do more than that.

PP.

If you can absorb data without undermining your kid's work, the two of you can watch some videos.

Google Michigan app review YouTube and see if you pick up any final tips.

If your kid is close enough to done that they have pdfs, you just need to buttress your confidence that everything possible has been done. No matter who you pay, you're only going to get one person's opinion.

Maybe listening to people talk through it could help.

What exactly are you hoping to change in the next four(!!!!) days? I mean, your kid can’t rewrite their essays or find additional activities or awards. This is bound to end in tears and panic, unless you just need a proofread or light copy edit. In which case, MS Word is your friend.

How much to review pdfs for 4 schools - UIUC, Chicago, GT, Mich? Not just essays, entire thing including activities and honors and personal info.

Will anyone even take on a kid now?
