The Metro National teams also practice in Rockville and DC, close to MVSA and MD Juniors.

The Metro National teams overlap with MD Juniors Elite Black teams in competitiveness and fees, and Metro offers college showcases, college connections, etc.

I predict that the biggest loser from the addition of the Metro National teams is MD Juniors.

How can you say that the Metro National teams overlap with MD Jrs in terms of competitiveness when it is a brand new program? The Metro college showcases are open to the public, regardless of where a player plays club. If a player is good enough, they will get recruited.

Currently, a Metro Travel team can have up to 15 players, and a Paramount 1 team can also have up to 15 players. The remaining top players are spread across various clubs: MD Juniors, VA Juniors, Blue Ridge, MVSA, VA Elite, American, BAVA, Liberty Elite, MOCO, Metro North...

The new Metro National teams, which will practice in Rockville and DC, should be able to attract players from nearby clubs such as MD Juniors, MVSA, VA Elite, Liberty Elite, MOCO, and Metro North. It only takes a few core players to make a team competitive — perhaps a good libero, a defensive specialist, one or two setters, and three or four hitters. If you can attract six to eight strong players, you will have a competitive team. I believe the Metro National teams will be able to do that.

MVSA is much more affordable, and that’s one of its main advantages. But if the cost were the same, would you rather send your child to Metro National or MD Juniors Elite Black? You could wait another year or two to see whether the new teams become competitive, but by then, the roster spots will likely be filled, and your child would have to be significantly better than the existing players to earn a spot.

15 spots- cool... You get to claim your dd plays for Metro and rides the bench.

I think part of the rationale for the Metro National teams is to not take so many on the Metro Travel teams. The 13th, 14th, and 15th player on a Metro Travel bench are in most cases good enough to start at pretty much any other CHRVA team and I think part of the plan is over time to have those kinds of players be the core of the National teams. Obviously for the near term, asking those players currently on a Metro Travel to move "down" to a Metro National team is a difficult conversation and perhaps those players might choose to go elsewhere, but over time if they can shrink the roster size of the Travel teams and still retain some of those players on the National teams they could end up with a solid second team. Whether it actually works out that way remains to be seen.

As far as the impact on MDJRs Elite Black teams or similar higher level teams, it will be interesting to see if people are willing to jump to the as yet unproven Metro National teams.

Wow that’s a long drive. I’m sure some have expressed a desire to leave, willingly and curious but realize it’s very personal info.

MDJRS has had some good teams but the new metro team will make a dent likely.

There haven’t been tryouts yet for Metro National teams (they are having 15s, 16s and 17s) so it’s not clear how it might play out. While I know some families will drive a long way for club volleyball, it seems to me that for many families who have been at MDJRs, DC and close in Montgomery County could be pretty impractical. I could maybe see there being an impact on the MOCO 1s team or maybe even MVSA, but any judgement will have to wait until rosters are made public.

Last year three players moved from MDJRS Elite Black 15 to Paramount 16-1. That's a long drive three times a week!

I heard that many of their players are trying to jump ship to other clubs like Metro. They had a pretty great u14 team. I would like to know if this is also going to hit the other teams there as well.
