Something like this was discussed during current Common App season https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1297572.page

+1

I’m not publicly judging you - but I silently do in my head.

Blank or align it with your taxes.

I do not think it will matter.

OK but is it still extremely insulting it’s even on there! I mean, I have a degree, I EARNED my degree !!!

I don't put an occupation anywhere. Doctor forms, etc. As long as I pay up why should they care.

I would not want to describe myself that way (I don't think I'd mind SAHM) but I don't think it's an issue from a perceptual standpoint. It's just an unfortunate old-fashioned word that makes you sound like you're wearing an apron and have your hair in curlers.

I’m pretty sure it’s not required. I’m unemployed currently and when I proofread the PDF of the first app my kid sent out, I didn’t see my spouse’s occupation anywhere on there.

I put homemaker. I don’t think it matters at all. It’s quite common.

On common app, has anyone marked "homemaker" for the profession/job for a parent who isn't working? Does it matter how it's perceived?
