Most of our HS teachers are good about that but every so often we have an exception. A few days ago DS shared he is still waiting for the majority of his calculus grades. He has an A based on just a few items but he has no idea what his grade will actually be for the quarter due to so many missing grades. It could be a B or he fears a C. Without any feedback, he doesn’t know if he even needs a tutor.

That is what is supposed to happen. I am pretty good about getting my stuff graded within 48 hours but then again I also have no problem spending 2 hours a day grading after school. A lot of my coworkers understandably are a bit further behind because they don't sacrifice as much personal time and there is nothing wrong with that.

This seemed like the logical thing to me.
I think this will be easier to do next quarter. This one had many four day weeks, plus all of the usual beginning of school year demands like multiple town halls and emergency drills. I had 21 actual days of instruction. If I had stopped a week ago, it would have been 16. Forcing 9 mastery grades out of 16 days of class is rough on 11 year olds and doesn’t feel logical.

The grading policy doesn't actually state that only excused absences can be turned in. The language is:
f) Allowing makeup work, regardless of the reason for the student’s absence.
Teachers may assign an equivalent, but different task or assessment to students when they return from any absence.

We could start earlier.
A mid October, mid-January, and late-May break would be appreciated.

MCPS enacts policies without considering how feasible they are. While I do think that all teachers should meet the deadline//grading guidelines, I knew many teachers couldn’t or wouldn’t because of their complaints about workload.

I agree, OP. It’s frustrating that there doesn’t seem to be a requirement that the teachers be current on grading prior to the deadline for the students to have their work and retakes turned in.

I think that work CAN be accepted - just not late work. So they can still have assignments this week, but students must turn them in on time.

This new MCPS policy works in theory, but in actuality, my children are getting lots of graded work returned this weekend The deadline to submit anything has already passed on Friday since the quarter coming up ends Friday. So wouldn’t the logical thing be to have a teacher grading deadline first and then another five days for student work to be completed? Now, if an assignment was missed or is of poor quality, there is no opportunity. This doesn’t make sense.
