If your kid can get into more selective schools, I'd recommend using CU Boulder only as a backup. Your kid will be better off with similarly academically minded peers.

She felt like the diversity was less than it is on the East coast, which she missed. Boys might have a different time. Engineering school is excellent. Off campus housing is very expensive. The dining halls suck. It’s hard to get around if you don’t live close to campus or have a car because the buses don’t go late (she spends a lot on Ubers).

I don’t know anyone looking to Colorado for diversity.

This all sounds like someone who didn’t do research. Boulder is a hot place for young people => expensive => expensive housing => rich people.

It was more of a realization that diversity mattered.

We know a kid there and he is enjoying Colorado, but struggling with the transition. This may be an individual thing, but he was struggling to keep up with his work starting about two weeks in. He had some personal issues with friends and girlfriend at other schools. Greek life also seemed more important than classes. There seems to be a lot of partying.

If he wants CO outdoors and engineering, you should also take a look at Mines! It’s smaller l, but a fabulous engineering school!

No.

I have a house in Boulder in walking distance of the school. You have no idea what you are talking about.

UC Boulder is just like any large state school. Alcohol before weed.

It's a great college.

OMG the smell of weed is ridiculous there. My DD goes there.

Love Boulder.

Great school.

Engineering department is well connected for jobs.

Student body is welcoming; some people think it's full of rich kids, but it's not. Nice mix of local and OOS students.

My kids loved it. One went just to grad school data science loved the program.

DS has some more selective schools on his list but he’s trying for engineering and it’s competitive. He likes UC Boulder and it could be a more realistic admit. I know the skiing and lifestyle is great, but can anyone speak to their academic culture and student body?
