Same. Made the mistake of telling my very MC mom what we make after she kept asking me over and over and it 100% changed our relationship. She now treats me the way she treated / talked about wealthy people when I was growing up (very derisive and resentful). It sucks.

Different cultures do things differently. I was shocked when my Korean-American friend gave her bonus to her parents, but it's part of her culture. My cousin's French husband flat out asked me how much my rent was. I was very taken aback, but answered him.

EXACTLY my husband’s immigrant mom. She is horrified by our modest house and our spending on kid stuff.

I shared with my immigrant mom who was always worrying that we spend too much money and must be living paycheck to paycheck. The spending in question was on kids clothes, toys, and activities and not buying exclusively buying the groceries that are on sale -- not on any actual luxuries. Result of sharing: she now does not worry that we will run out of money, and has moved on to saying that we could buy a much nicer and bigger house (that we don't want and don't need) if we didn't waste so much of our money!

My dh shares with his dad because they talk money and investments all the time. I haven’t shared with my mom but I don’t really know why not.

Money was always very secretive in my family. Then my mother died and my father was like "Okay, now that she's dead, here's what I have!" So I have since told my father what I earn. My brother and I don't know each other's salaries. His wife's salary is public info, so I know that.
