Since I often wear short shorts or mini skirts/dresses, I also have collection of printed sheer hosiery, with flower designs, or faux sweater socks on them (easier than real high socks that need garters to stay up).
For sheer hose, Wolford is a very good brand. Conte too, but it's harder to find. There are excellent French and Italian brands whose names I don't recall right now.
If you're in the market for wool or cashmere tights, then the German brands like Falke are unbeatable.
I like silk reflections.
I prefer hosiery in winter, and overall it’s in poor taste to have bare legs on certain occasions even in summer.

I’m in my early 60s and I remember my parents generation using those words, but have very rarely heard them used since then.

^ Printed isn't the right word. I think the designs are laser-cut. And the faux sweater socks are knitted on to the hose, I assume.

I've decided to break free from the tyranny of no hose in winter. I like wearing skirts and dresses; bare legs are cold in winter. Black tights are not much of an option for me. It is not a great color for me, so I have few winter skirts or dresses I can wear them with. No hose means I have to wear boots with them, which can get old.
I am going back to wearing hose. I went to Bloomingdales and the sales lady directed me to Hue pantyhose in Natural. I have quite pale skin and the color works well. The quality seems good and they are much cheaper than Wolford.
