It is a Load over Time issue. The longer your DC keeps up the Load, the higher the likely of an overuse injury popping up.

Lol… on a 2nd team, her coach is not really going to care about her schedule… that is the reality. Ok sounds like a rest day is the consensus. Thx all!

Yes, they need a rest day. They should take their schedule to their coach and develop a system. Growth and improvement happen during rest. You can be on the ball everyday, but you can not pile intensity upon intensity or the body will not have the time to recover.

If she runs a lot and she uses the off day to run in Zone 1, it is fine. 99% of people hate zone 1 and can’t identify it without a watch dictating it.

To answer your question, my dd does a 2 mile run and does a rec volleyball league.

Yes, they absolutely need a rest day - or two. Our club is pretty forward about load management and how much and what the kids should do outside of club training (light runs, weight training, stretch/yoga/pilates).

My DC is club 2nd team and plays varsity. Practices in HS are not super intense but they are time consuming. Club right now is once a week. To compensate, DC will often train hard themselves on off days and will often run extra too. I think they need a rest day, but maybe not? What do other kids this age do?
