1st the vast majority of 6th graders playing lacrosse won’t start on their highschool team let alone play in college. It’s just pure numbers - there are 10 starting spots on the varsity team and if you live in upper class md or va probably Over half the boys and a over a third of the girls in the school played a significant amount of lax.
2nd of the kids who start on their highschool team only a handful will play in college. With the exception of the few of elite private school teams - on those teams a little more than half will play in college.
3rd of the lucky few who play in college - Less than half will it be actually worth it. Many of those players will either go to a college they would have never gone to or find they don’t like the demands of college athletics.
4th of those special players who play in college profitably and truly enjoy it the overwhelming majority are truly gifted athletes.
The takeaway is that if your kid does not have superior athletic ability and does not passionately love lacrosse - travel lax is simply a way to keep your kid occupied and in shape. Those are great goals but travel is not an efficient way to achieve them.

Perhaps there is not a consensus on what is best. Perhaps it is time parents advocate for youth sports. Perhaps it is time to stop the greed and bring back morals/values.
From a parent who refused to pay club fees and still had a kid recruited, there is a vision where parents do not spend a college fund on a sport in elem/middle/high school. Or I am bored…..
Would love to hear how you bucked the trend. How did you get your kid recruited without playing for a club?
