Speaking for myself, having the only criteria-based program be dance is ludicrous at a school of this size. I’ve seen a number of other threads talk about advocating to move the humanities criteria program from Whitman to Northwood. How can we make this happen?

Northwood is supposed to have criteria-based performing arts, not only dance.

Is the Northwood PTA active? I saw that the website does not work and the Facebook page does not seem particularly active either. Is the listserv the only way to connect?

Also, has anyone been able to get in touch or advocate with Laura Stewart? I sent her an email and never heard back.

Yes, I think that that is not only fine, but a really great and important step!

Northwood should have the criteria-based performing arts program reinstated ASAP for starters.

Are we allowed to subscribe to the PTSA listserv if we don't have kids there yet? Might be a little weird.

Someone could maybe create an unofficial Northwood supporters listserv on groups.io or the like and share the link here and elsewhere for folks to subscribe? And then we could share it with the Northwood PTSA folks and invite them to communicate with us there?

You could.

No, don’t post it here but if there is a generic email address or website, that might be helpful.

The fact that half of us don’t even know if we will be zoned there makes advocacy impossible. We are at a severe disadvantage and this is a very good reason why the program changes should not be pushed through this year! This should be a talking point since it’s 100% true.

I mean, a lot of us don’t even know what our home HS is going to be yet.

Since STEM is not at all related to the existing SMCS, maybe it does not need to be at Blair.

Op, you need to get a new email address so that people can contact you. Also, from experience, don’t expect that you will be able to police what people contribute to a thread on DCUM. Even a Facebook group will allow you more ability to focus.

Yes, it seems like Northwood was given scraps, which is baffling from a taxpayer perspective with the new building.

A good start would be moving Humanities from Whitman, or — since every HS needs a criteria program and Blair already has STEM— move CAP (communication arts) from Blair to Northwood. This would make sense from a utilization perspective because 3 out of the 4 boundary options have Blair at/over 100% capacity.

I would love to plug into the existing Northwood PTA and offer to work with them-- does anyone know who to contact and what they're doing?
