Good point. The wealthiest families live on the Purple Line.

MCPS was explicit during the info zoom this week on the regional model. But the terminology they used is confusing to the layman because MCPS is using existing terminology "criteria-based," but changing the meaning of that terminology.
In the new regional model, "criteria-based" = lottery. The lottery pool will be determined based on (minimum) criteria. This is a change.
In the new regional model, "interest-based" = plain lottery. Student only has to check off interest in a program to get their name added to the lottery pool. This is not changing.
"Criteria-based" at the HS level will change from the current application system to lottery. There is a distinct possibility that a student application will no longer exist, starting with next year's 8th graders (this year's 7th graders).
For anyone who knows how this change affected the MS magnets and ES magnets, you can anticipate what will happen to the HS magnets.
