It's your kid's turf. Don't make it about you

Our middle school's PTA does this.

Our MS doesn’t sadly have an active PTA. What are ways to get to know other MS families?

Or if you have ES kids, do you only meet other parents from your kid's school at playdates? Meet at common events (sports, birthday parties, religious places etc.)? How about once kids are in MS?

Why should the school put energy into organizing parent meet ups outside of the PTA?

Question was do they? Not why.

A well connected community is stronger than an isolated one.

For MCPS elementary schools, you can meet parents by becoming active in the school community, such as serving on PTA board and on committees for organizing big school events (Fall fest/Spring fling/etc.).

Extracurricular activities are another way to get to know families well (sports teams and Girl or Boy Scouts, in particular).

And if you have a community swim/tennis club that’s another way to meet people, especially if your child joins the swim team or you become involved with the board.

If your neighborhood hosts a community event (Halloween, 4th of July, or annual block parties) those planning committees can be great ways to meet families and others in your communities.
