DP but same. It's totally reverse psychology, especially with things like "bruh" and stupid slang words. They hear how ridiculous it sounds, they don't use it as much.

3rd grade parent here and I hear you but to some extent this is a developmental issue. My kid has become less attentive and responsive to directions this year. It's hormones. She's more emotional, has developed new interests, and her attention is often divided. I have noticed the problem is MUCH more pronounced when she's around friends, so I'm guessing it's especially bad in the classroom.

All of which is to say, thank you for the work you do with these kids! But know we are dealing with the same challenging behaviors at home and doing our best. Trust me when I tell you that I also get frustrated about repeating instructions or being ignored.

As a third grade teacher, we are working on following directions the first time. If parents could reinforce this at home it would be great. No multiple reminders for basic instructions. “Please put away your reading folder and get out your math folder” should not be the time suck that it is.

It's a work in progress. It worked on "sus" and I'm employing the technique on "bet" for my 7th grader.
