They will have no choice if they start to get left out of the playoffs.

Thanks to their independent status. In a real conference their record would probably take a hit.

USC and ND have been making the trip for a 100 years. The travel is not the issue. But for some reason, colleges in California aren't keeping up with changes in football. USC, Cal, Stanford, and UCLA all seem to fading fast in the new era. And looking at their empty stadiums, they seem to have lost a lot of fans in recent years. USC/ND Rivalry might end with last night's ND victory in South Bend. First game was in 1926. It would be sad to see it end, but I think USC is frustrated with all their loses, they don't like the travel or the midwest weather.

I guess they might continue it if all the games were played in LA.

Either way, I hope it continues. The fans love it...well maybe not the USC fans anymore lol.
