Also Rufus Sewell’s American accent was genuinely impressive — not a single slip! If I didn’t remember him from his “Cold Comfort Farm” days, I’d never have guessed he wasn’t American.

Absolutely! I binged it over the weekend — it was great!
That said, it felt like “political fantasy porn”: my friends who work in intelligence/State/politics lead far more mundane and uneventful lives. I noticed the series was created by a woman, which tracks with the ‘fantasy’ aspect.

I enjoyed the first two seasons with some reservations. IMO this was the best season by far. Great actors and the production value felt noticeably superior.

I think it's gotten better each season.
Also, I love seeing Allison Janney and Bradley Whitford on screen together again.

A lot of unexpected plot twists.
A lot of conflicts that come without easy solutions.
I like her non-conforming portrayal of a female leader.
I watched almost the whole new season in just a few nights. Definitely check it out.

I thought the first two seasons were overly dramatic and unrealistic. Really, the Ambassador is doing all that? So unlikely. But the third season is apparently about trying to navigate being a two career couple, and trying to solve marital conflict in any way possible, and I find that resonates a lot more with me.
