You need to leave the DC area, most of the jobs here are at least tangentially related to the federal government, even if they look unrelated at first.

Go for it OP. Look into stuff. And ignore the people that say AI will replace everything. They said that about the internet too. AI is just a tool we will use in different fields an we will adapt with it over time.

Have you thought about staying at the Sam firm but moving to another office (if possible)? Just about every other city in the country (except maybe Huntsville, San Diego, and Norfolk) have economies much less reliant on federal work.

As we are seeing now, there are virtually no fields that are unaffected by the federal government, whether through funding or regulation.
