People who can’t find a job better than a federal government job want it.
You should ask: why current federal government employees do not leave their federal government jobs in the current environment? The answer is: if they could get a better non-federal government job, they will do. But they can’t.
Piss off. I took a 50% paycut to take my federal job because I believe in what I am doing. I could easily get a better paying job with better hours and less stress (especially with what the current administration is subjecting us to), but I could never have the same impact in the private sector. Even many lower paid civil servants doing menial jobs could get "better" jobs, but value their contribution to this country.
50% pay cut??? I have a hard time believing that
DP. 15 years ago I went from making 185k as a third year biglaw associate to 92k as a GS-13 staff attorney. Took 12 years and a competitive promotion to get up to a high enough GS-15 step to equal that third year salary.

Uh, nobody can get a job right now. Look at fresh out of college. The labor market is frozen.
You just confirmed PP is correct.
People want to work for the federal government because the job market is bad;
Current feds do not leave government because the job market is bad.
