If you’re wondering why your kids have subpar long-term subs, look at HR.

Are you already in the sub system? Been fingerprinted? Got cleared?

Yeah. So your point?

Maybe it is your attitude holding you back.

I understand they reposted the position, but ask for feedback on what you could do differently in the interview or on your resume - it might be helpful. I’d do the sub to LT sub that was suggested. The nice thing about that is the flexibility to take a new position as soon as something else opens up. Good luck to you.

More than likely they need to be on the sub list and the principals get a list from HR.

If the principal blew you off, isn't that a principal problem, not an HR problem?

Yes. If the principal is interested, they can move the process along very quickly.

Often they don’t respond to emails unfortunately. It’s a problem.

My kid currently have a former Fed (zero teaching experience) because MCPS did the whole “former feds come teach” bs. This infuriates me that real teachers with actual experience are getting negated. MCPS going for the gutter per usual.

Prepandemic they were even worse, if you can believe it. I almost gave up until a principal went to bat for me and pushed for faster processing . . .

MCPS central office is a hot mess. Too bloated.

I'm also originally from CA.

Have you gone through the screening process with MCPS? Usually you need to go through that to be 'approved' to accept a job before you can be interviewed/offered a position. Did you apply to the generic 'Teach with MCPS' position?

Maybe apply to be a sub—you might get a quick reply? then switch to long term sub, then see what your options are.

I suspect the resumes are auto screened by a computer and you didn't have the right buzz words. Not all subs are subpar.

I am recently here from California. I have 2 masters. 15 years of teaching. I recently applied to a long term sub for English (oh hi, I taught AP English for all of those years)… they not only didn’t get back to me, they reposted the position. Yes, I emailed the principal.
