Common to put in all homework for a unit as a single grade after the test, yes. Generally homework is reviewed in class or is on mathspace/delta math and is self checking, so no need to grade and return daily. That many grades clogs up the gradebook.

Correction. Third score just appeared in parent sis for us. This is for a unit test taken more than 2 weeks ago. No other grades or feedback so far.

Our Algebra 1 teacher has shared grades and feedback promptly so far. DS had 1 unit test, 2 quizzies, and daily homework and the grades for each are on schoology and parent sis. I would be able to see the grades within a day or two. I even see a letter grade on parent sis. our teacher also communicates weekly on what they're learning. Is it not the case for all of you? We are in a center school with an in-person teacher.

To clarify, I know many students take Algebra in Middle School. In my post, I referred to it as a High School course, because our ES Algebra teacher keeps telling students that Algebra is a High School course and they need to adjust to High School expectations when it comes to assignments and assessments.

MS vs HS designation does not really matter for my question in this post if there are no differences between MS and HS grading structures. If someone can explain this, that would be much appreciated.

I am also curious about the experience of other parents with kids in Algebra pilot in 6th grade. In general, I think it is never a good idea to keep students and parents in dark when it comes to student performance.

If the HS teacher from the previous post is correct, there should be at least 7 grades per quarter, and, so far, our DC got only 2, leaving 5 more grades to be posted in the last 3 weeks for this quarter.

My question is whether this is typical.

OP, the grading and reporting criteria is clear. A minimum of 7 grades, with no single grade being over 30% of a student’s grade. That means at least 3 summative assignments. Contact the teacher and ask.

Algebra 1 can be a middle school course. Historically, it is a high school course and can be for advanced middle school or schools that are trying to push it ahead. Many students in middle school are not ready for it and many middle schools are inflating.

Not anymore. Even in rural and inner city poor performing areas, it's now offered in 6th to 8th grade middle school. FCPS is just now catching up.

If students and their parents have reservations about algebra1 in 6th, just stay away from it. It's not mandatory. There are over 700 advanced students interested and voluntarily enrolled in pilot program.

At our school, Algebra pilot students are not allowed to submit homework until after the unit test. Not sure whether homework is graded after that point, since no homework grade has been entered in the system yet.

Is this how it works in High School too?

My child isn’t in this specific one, but that seems terrible. Kids, whether middle or high school, need regular feedback from assignments. At a minimum, they should be getting homework graded and returned weekly.
