You still earn leave during the shutdown but it's not credited til after. If GEFTA is followed, those periods of furlough will be back paid with no charge to leave.

I seem to remember last time they changed a colleague’s stratus to furloughed so they could be out and then changed it back.

Your agency can request documentation if they think you are engaging in sick leave abuse. Obviously not going to happen if you call out occasionally but if you're out every week they may ask questions.

I appreciate that and would like to be working myself (am furloughed) but also acknowledge that people are paying to commute, paying for childcare, etc. with no money coming in. At some point it's too much of a financial burden.

That's what ended the last shutdown - too many people in ATC calling in sick.

you are either excepted and working, or furloughed. no leave, and you don't have to apply it retro.

I don't recall what happens to our leave accumulation and if we still earn leave for the shutdown time.

I’m also excepted but I took time for a long planned medical procedure. It’s nice that I don’t have to use sick leafs for that day!

If you’re furloughed you don’t use leave

Will they use such leave after the shutdown?

You don’t put in for leave, you go into furlough status the you aren’t working. At least that’s how my agency is doing it. I’m working a few hours a day on a specific project that they need me to deal with, teleworking the rest. This is all so pathetic. And I’m still waiting on my partial pay from last pay period.

I am still doing plenty of working from home because we are stretched so thin.

My time card said furloughed and I cannot input my sick leave. What happens to sick leave and annual leave during a shutdown?
