It may also depend on the Math MAP score. If that is a very high score and they understand the student is new to MCPS and therefore could not access the advanced math track, then it may make a difference? But a high MAP score for that program is important.

you dont know what you are talking about. my kid graduated from Wheaton's engineering academy which shares teachers with the magnet and the teachers are fantastic. way better than my other kid's DCC school stem teachers

It won’t preclude him from getting in, but he’ll have to take geometry over the summer.

In my student’s experience (now in college), the majority of the eng. magnet students had already taken Geometry by 9th grade. They took magnet Precalc and AP Physics in 9th grade also. He knew one student who took Geometry and the other classes but it was a big lift. Maybe take Geometry during the summer?

Apply and see what happens. I would think its ok as long as they are doing well.

We're new to MCPS. DS wants to apply to engineering magnet but is taking Algebra I in 8th grade. Is that enough to qualify? Searching is giving me mixed messages and we don't yet have a ParentVUE account so I can't access any info that's not public.
