Yes, at our DCPS, every single kid in the advanced math group is scoring at 99th percentile. For some, this means good for 3rd grade but others are at a 5th or 6th grade level. iReady tells you this for Math with level c, d, e, f, etc (C is third grade, D fourth, e 5th, etc.). Your kid will know their level.

I would guess 93rd percentile means still on grade level.

Both my kids were 99 in DCPS and once I saw 96, which may have been national. I thought the printed out the same paperwork every year. It didn't tell me anything.
My older kid skipped school, rarely did homework, but is doing great in college. I wouldn't worry about the numbers from prk4-12.

Its very good but not exceptional. If your child is only in 3rd grade, they have years of standardized testing ahead of them. Dont worry about it.

It’s a fair question to ask what it actually means around here. Obviously the OP understands 93 percent means nationally. At our elementary school 93 percent is not exceptional. Good enough for nobody to be worried about your kid and for them to be grouped with the kids who are doing well but not the kids functioning way above grade level.

My kids go to a public elementary school with mediocre ratings in a suburb of a non coastal city. They typically score somewhere in the 90s. They don’t do any studying outside of school/hw and aren’t all that interested in schoolwork. They also are technically on grade level or just above in most categories.

What is the deal?? Are the vast majority of schools in the US that bad? Are most kids seriously all below grade level? Listen, I think my kids are bright little wonderful kids but these iready results are pretty concerning when they indicate that performing at grade level puts you in the 90 something percentile.

You may be able to get info out of your kid’s school about where their score falls within the distribution of scores at your kid’s school but they may not give out the specifics. For example we learned our kid who was 98th percentile in math was above average but still not at the top of the class. That was the kids who were 20-30 points above the floor for the 99th percentile.

Yes for ELA, no for math. My 5th grader is on grade level (or technically ahead, but only insofar as she’s late 5th grade) at the 99th%ile.

The 99th percentile kids are more prevalent where 1%ers live.

It's really good. In this area they probably have other strong scorers in their class, but it's good.

The thing about the 99th percentile is some kids in it are just slightly above the 98th percentile, and others are way way above that. Because the 99th percentile doesn't really have an end to it. You can try to figure out which kind of kid is yours. Mine were the first kind and they're certainly not geniuses but they do well and can easily handle high school Algebra and Geometry in middle school.
