If I want potatoes and onions away from each other.. can I ask.. would the apples be ok near-ish the potatoes in a 2-tier stacked open box?

I think that’s my question. Is there *any* way I can use a space saving box for these guys?

I don't think you want apples and potatoes near each other. It would be the ethylene gas problem either way. Air flow probably has a lot to do with it though.

I only keep a couple of onions on hand at a time and they go in the fridge. Had a fruit fly experience that turned me off of buying bags of onions years ago.

Potatoes I keep in the bag in the bottom of a kitchen hutch where they are out of the light.

Fruit in a wood bowl in my dining room. Extra apples and oranges go in the fridge.

I store potatoes, onions, and garlic on a dark shelf in wire baskets lined with cloth napkins. They can be stacked if needed. But I usually have enough space to line them up side by side.

Wouldn't over think it. Just dry and dark and cool.

No I didn’t figure it out. I mean, as it is, they’re just hanging out in their bags. Apples and bananas on the counter. Potatoes and onions in the pantry.

Did you figure it out? Or try new setups?

I’m looking up how to store my:
Potatoes and onions away from each other in my pantry in wood containers (currently just in their bags and sort of near each other)
And how to get my bananas, apples, “counter fruit,” off the counter and into a wood open basket in my pantry.

So I need three of those open-front wood box/baskets.
I see a bunch of cool stacking ones for space-saving, but I don’t think I want any of these three baskets near each other.

Help continue my thought. Totally a stupid Google or ChatGPT question but .. I need thinking people
