I volunteer as a parent at our school's HS admissions admitted families event (DMV private) and there are always 4-5 families there for rising 10th who've been accepted to our school and various others so it does happen.

This. It depends entirely on the school and even then it fluctuates from year to year based on whether other students leave. It’s always worth asking. My DC has had a few new students join their grade in both 10th and 11th, so it certainly does happen.

Unless your child is being recruited for something, 10th is going to be a hard admit

Is there any way to know if there is any chance at all at being admitted as a transfer (HS 10th grade)? Do school usually have spots?
Also how important is it for both parents to attend things like the Open House? I have a family conflict (elder care issue) that day so would rather not go but I don’t want it to be a tick against her.
