Research the company online and check if they have a job application submission process.

Prepare a resume/cover letter and ask her how you should submit it, through her or direct to company.

She probably gets a referral bonus too so win/win. I wouldn't feel weird about asking at all.

Dear Larla, It was great chatting last week! I look a look online and there is a job that I'm really interested in. Thanks for the tip! If you have any insight about this role, I'd love to chat more. I plan to apply this weekend, and was wondering if there was any benefit to you if I named you as a referral? Looking forward to more fun times on the sidelines!

I agree with other posters. Also, I have a few friends who get bonuses at their companies I’d they refer a person for a position who is successfully hired. I don’t know if that applies to her, but it might. Good luck!

+100

Since she was asking for specifics about your background, OP, go for it! What you wrote is a perfect reason to contact her.

I also wouldn’t have mentioned it if I wasn’t at least willing to forward your resume to the right person.

That leaves it in her court to volunteer to take your resume to the person or talk to someone on your behalf, give resume advice, whatever (I would do this for an acquaintance).

How big is the company? Is it something huge where chances she would know anyone helpful are exceedingly slim or is it smaller?

great advice, thanks!

it's smallish and i know my resume wouldn't go anywhere without 'help' especially now.

not sure how or if i should go about asking an acquaintance (so not really a friend) such questions. last week briefly chatted with a mom on dd's soccer team about currently looking for a new job but the market was brutal, and she mentioned her firm's hiring people with my specialty and said she's really happy there and highly recommend etc. i don't really know her very well - like barely, so it's a bit hard for me to tell whether she's genuinely trying to help or just saying that and being polite/friendly. it's a completely different industry but i looked up their openings and did see one opportunity that interests me. i'll most likely see her again tonight at practice, so looking for some advices on if/how to follow up.
