I have several tattoos (large, color, in places you would never see them in office clothing) from my early 20s (I'm 44 now). The color has faded somewhat in that it's not as bright as it was 20 years ago, but it's still easily yellow/red/green/etc. vs some weird blur. Linework is less defined, but still clear. The forms are not distorted such that you can't see that it's flowers/birds/etc.

They are more traditional style, so linework with color, not a lot of detail. That helps with the blurring and fading.

Mine is about 12 years old. I still love it. This post made me look and I'd say it's a smidge blurred and faded, but barely. I didn't notice until I just looked now. The faded actually is nice, I think this is how tattoos are supposed to work. The blurring is so subtle it doesn't matter.

This post made me do the math and I’ve had mine 25 years! A little blurred but not bad. It is monochromatic and I wonder if that helps with longevity

Mine is 15 years old. It is faded some but not a lot, and the edges are still crisp. It's fine line work and very high quality.

However I am considering removing it. I don't regret getting it, but it does feel like a relic of a different time in my life. It is a pretty tattoo and I get compliments on it, but I sometimes think about how it would be nice to wear shoulder-baring clothes without revealing the tattoo and the associations that go with it. I am on the fence still but I did see a tattoo removal specialist who told me it's a good candidate for removal because of the age, color, and location, and because I have fair skin which apparently sheds tattoos more easily. I am considering it.

I got mine 18 years ago. It's probably faded, but it's on my butt so I'm not looking at it much. I forget it's there, but I've never regretted it. I'm in a conservative field or I would have more of them, in more obvious places.

No. My is on my low belly -- just inside of and slightly below the hip bone. I got it in college, some 30+ years ago. Pregnancies, other minor weight changes, etc. and it still looks the same. No blurring, stretching, or fading.

My tattoo is about 25 years old. It’s still easily identifiable, but definitely blurring. I just got to work done on it to touch it up and now it looks amazing again.

The in and process is different now than 10 years ago. Might not be comparing apples with apples.

Do you love it as much as you did when you first got it even though it is faded?

I have one that is nearly 30 years old. Yes, it has faded considerably, despite my use of sunscreen to cover it.

Has it started blurring or fading yet?
