You could probably argue that LSE’s international admissions enhance the UK’s soft power. Many heads of state and influential people have attended. Of course that doesn’t mean that international numbers need to be as high as they are.

Wow, this story is really sad. I bet those Londoners will freak when they find out there are a lot of foreigners in their midst, and even more foreigners who want to be there. Don’t know if I’ll be able to sleep tonight.

Very true but Chinese students and/or their parents are savvy consumers and want the top colleges for their kids, not middling ones.

it is 50% international for undergrad only when you include post-grad does it become 70%

The reason UCL screwed up was they though Chinese yield would be the same as in previous years….BUT they forgot to take into account half of those Chinese students are NO LONGER coming to America due to visa problems/trump, etc. So they flocked to the UK….
On well. 14,000 Chinese Students out of 52,000 is a ridiculous number. Might as well teach in Chinese.

LSE has always been predominantly international — the destination for every third world princess. This is new for the other schools.

If would-be student cannot get a visa, then UK government will not let them visit/stay. UCL cannot overrule the UK Foreign Office.

They will likely just bump them to next year. It’s not a problem unless your senior’s heart’s desire is UCL.

Its all over today's news in the UK that UCL made too many offers to foreign students. They exceeded their UK Foreign Office quota for student visas, so some students are being told they cannot attend this fall. It is a huge mess.
Apparently the primary cause is that the PRC applicant contingent had a much higher yield than expected.
