So if you know the diagnosis, why are you asking if this is normal?!

There's no dx. I just know she had counseling at about age 14 or 15. There's never been a dx.
The dx might be that she’s just a selfish brat.

But, i also know someone whose 39 year old daughter, who is a medical specialist, double board certified, routinely screams at her mother when she doesn't get her way. I mean you or any one of us could have her as a doctor and think that she would never do anything so immature, but yes, she has tantrums.

She is seriously mentally ill, and it could be a combative form of autism, or a personality disorder of some kind. All of those come with anxiety, poor social skills and emotional dysregulation.

I hope you can disengage, OP, and that her parents are not too invested. This is not something you want to get involved in.

Is she financially independent? Takes no money from her parents to support her lifestyle?

Because it sounds like she is dependent on them, I'm guessing financially in some way, and she uses emotional manipulation to keep them off-balance - to keep the relationship dynamic within her control.

Is there any difference between women who have their own kids and women who do not in terms of general emotional regulation. For instance plenty of women don't have kids, move through life, jobs, etc., just fine, are happy, etc. But, for some, is it possible that they still see themselves as children and carry on that role with their parents?

After figuring out my MIL had borderline pd and learning more about it, I couldn’t help but realize all those crap-stirring real housewives had it too. I couldn’t watch those Bravo shows anymore.

Over the dumbest stuff. A misunderstanding, a piece of information she didn't get about an upcoming event. Yelling, accusing, snide sarcastic tone, threatening to hang up.

Also, not with parents, but other people, like close friends- someone might say something that she takes personally, and she will cut them off. But not before getting into a serious yelling match and then nothing but the silence treatment and the follow up " I'm done. " No conflict resolution, just door slam. Probably 5 close friends over 20 years have been cut off. Terrible temper, poor emotional regulation.
