DS did geometry as a 5th grader because it was fun and school AAP was too boring

Some kids do it because they want to, some kids do it because their parents make them. No one has denied that. Mine only does the national math competition class, he dropped the regular class after 6th grade because it moved to slowly. He loves the NMC program.

We skipped geometry because it didn’t work with our sports schedule. They are in geometry at school and Algebra II honors at RSM this year

Curie is modelled after schools in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana state, where now grades 6 onwards they teach to the test! This is the standard now in both the above states and is being replicated by Curie here.

I was wondering what the reasoning or benefit is behind doubling up on these math classes at the same time.

Is it mainly for acceleration into higher-level math in high school (like getting to Calculus earlier), or are there other advantages? Would love to hear insights from fellow moms who’ve had experience with this path!.

why double up? DC attends Curie, and it is structured very similar to AAP curriculum, but a grade ahead.

Curie, the cram school for parents with FOMO who grew up in cram schools of Andhra Pradesh and want to subjugate their children to the same as they know nothing better.

My son started geometry at RSM in 6th grade as suggested. No real reason other than geometry is a part of math and that he enjoyed it.

RSM will provide additional instruction and support for kids who are struggling or greater depth and extensions for kids who understand the material.

I heard few kids take it to prep for SAT

My son's friend is in this geometry option. His mom said he's weak at math and/or low confidence so it's to give him extra practice in advance. Having met the kid a few times, I tend to think he does have a math confidence issue (although they are all in accelerated math).

My son chose not to double up 6th grade math and Geometry at RSM, he went with the math competition class instead of geometry. RSM starts geometry as an hour-long class in 6th grade arguing that US math classes do not teach geometry with enough depth. The extra two years of the shorter class plus the regular geometry class is meant to be a more thorough dive into the subject.

Like I said, my son did not add the geometry on, he selected the math competition class instead. He also did not do Algebra at RSM, the 6th grade class was moving too slow and they wouldn't bump him into the Algebra class. He figured taking the Algebra class while at school would be equally boring and unnecessary.
