(my daughter got all of these from her friends, who know her well last year in 6th grade)

That just seems so impersonal and like the friends don't care at all. I mean, they know her "well" but can't figure out a real gift? Just tossing a gift card at someone is what you do when you don't know a person or don't care about them.

A nice card and $25 gift card to Target, Barnes & Noble, or even Amazon is totally fine.

If you don’t want to give a gift card, I either give Lego sets (flowers or animals) or books from Barnes & noble with a gift receipt. I agree with the $20-$25 range.

+1 for a gift card. Do people just put cash in cards anymore?

My 11 year old loved getting Target, Amazon, and Visa gift cards as suggested by a PP.

My 5th grade DD had a few surprise gifts from girls on her sports team that she wasn’t expecting to get. One was a Target gift card and she was really excited to have pocket money to spend. It was in a tiny gift bag with a little note and drawing from her teammate.

DS should go. DD’s class is actually doing co-ed, non-flirting socializing in a way they haven’t since maybe 1st grade. I was talking to a group of parents of kids of both sexes and we all agreed that it’s been a positive shift. The boys have been more chill this year and the girls have toned down the social drama. I can’t help but think that getting out of their single sex bubbles has helped that.

I think those are appropriate for younger elementary, not older. The 4th and 5th grade girls I know are not doing craft kits anymore. OP, get a squish mellow pillow or Labubu.

There are some Lego sets that are beautiful.

Look at the flower bouquet sets at Target.

A Barnes & Noble, Target, or Amazon gift card might be nice. Could package with a cool paperback book or a small stuffie.

DS 11 is invited to a birthday party and knows nothing about the birthday girl. They are classmates but he says he’s only spoken to her once or twice. He does want to attend her party.

What do I get her for a gift? How much would you spend?
