If you’re wanting general recruitment advice (for athletes not rowing specific), there’s a FB group College Recruitment Advice for Parents of High Schoolers.

If your coach can’t point you towards whatever resources you need, maybe check there.

Also, as a former D1 rower, typically it was the rowers that got recruited & any scholarships. The one cox I knew of at our school that did, was a walk on, had lots of high school experience, & was really good & even then it was more of a token of appreciation vs making a dent in her tuition bill. YMMV

Very hard, Coxswains are typically not given recruiting support. There is a long thread on CC about this.

Sadly, you don't even have to be a rower, just hire a college admissions coach who has connections with coaches and admissions staff.

Less is not more with coxswain weight. There are minimums. Jesus, I wish ppl wouldn’t post unless they know that they’re talking about.

Current minimum weight for NCAA women coxswains is 121 lbs. they get weighted before a race & if they are less, they get sand bagged. As in, an actual bag of sand, making their weight 121, goes in the boat with them.

Serious question, why only a 10 lb difference? I'm guessing the average weight difference between the male crew and the female crew are way more than 10 lbs. You can easily find a 90 lb female.


Not with a booming voice! Same reason as why a Deep Speaker Box is just better.

Seriously? According to CDC, the average weight of women in the U.S. is 171+ lbs.

Depends on the school. I don’t know about D1, but for D3, fill out the sports interest form on the college website and one of the coaches will reach out. DD did this with several schools and they had many conversations and summer before senior year, they had her submit transcript and scores to see if she would qualify. She heard several different responses from schools. DD was told at the school that she ended up that the coach would talk to admissions and put a good word for her during the ED round. So they didn’t use a slot for her, but I also think it was because she was able to get in on her own academic merit.
