Anyone with similar income level looking at privates? I know schools purport to be need blind but I know they’re not. I wonder if being legacy would make a difference.

A legacy with 125k? Probably not donors, so if your kid is not a genius, it’s straight to the bottom of the legacy pile.

His hands and feet are mangos. He's gonna be a genius anyway.

Entering for K? Depends on the school.

If you’re on the edge of comfortably being able to pay and a stretch I’d say apply. If you get denied that’s totally fine. If you decide to have another child or major increase in expenses that edge can be pushed to unaffordable category. FA becomes almost impossible if you decide to apply after acceptance into the school. I’m likely going to be denied cause I don’t have evidence that those expenses are necessary, but it doesn’t hurt to try.

Obviously for those that are comfortably comfortable this would not likely be an issue. So I’m not saying everyone should apply just to get on the “books”

Not to be nosy but you brought it up - what other type of dependents are there (parents?) and how do you document that in your application?

We have about the same HHI with 1 child. Mainly applying to schools in the 60-70k range but we have a couple catholics and UNIS is around 50k. It's a stretch for us but was assuming we wouldn't qualify for aid.

It’s ok. One Parent and niece (long story). Not sure how that will be document. HM has a session on how to navigate FA coming up, so I hope to figure out how to do that properly, because they’re technically not considered “dependents”. Meaning they do not live with me so for tax purposes I don’t claim them.

BASIS is around that IIRC, also some parochial schools. And some places that charge $70k for middle and high schoolers charge in the $40s for little kids.

How many kids do you have? Asking because Dalton was reported that 400K with 2 kids are qualified for FA?

Hi,

Just trying to gauge what chances of getting a tuition break would be like.

For those who have received any kind of tuition

What is your HHI?
How much is tuition?
Percentage of tuition assistance?

Thanks
