With typical prep course, his score would rise about 80 points.

A 1380 is fine, a 1460 is excellent, but not outstanding.

Your son is normal, not a nerd. He'll probably be very successful in a sales career or start his own company which employs the nerds.

Mom of three boys here. There is nothing wrong with your son. The problem is the belief that a 17-18 year old is supposed to know what they want to do/major in. Most college kids change majors, being undecided is okay, and boys sometimes take a little longer to figure it out. Do he want to go to college?

Is this a joke? Go into business, finance, accounting. You don't need high level math for that stuff.

Most kids do not get above 700 math. Take this site with a grain of salt.

What makes you wonder if he should even go to college? He seems to be a strong student. UW 3.8, IB classes, a 1380 SAT. If you were striving for an Ivy, I would say it would probably be difficult but otherwise, he would be a strong applicant for the majority of the remaining colleges/universities. I'm honestly bewildered why you don't think he's college material.

He can do just about any hard science as long as he has a basic understanding of calculus. So maybe not physics, but chemistry or biology. What about a medical track? PA school? Specialist school?

Stop. He has a 1380 which is in the 92nd percentile and you're wondering if he should even go to college? Is this real? I swear, some of you DCUMers are so delusional.

I think they are fine, better than video games or tiktok.

If he is otherwise a strong student, apply to test optional schools and he will figure it out. Vandy, WUSTL, Emory.

Is he more extroverted or introverted? Would he enjoy sales, or consider learning a trade?

SAT doesn't decide major only the school; send him to CC and let him figure it out there, set him up with job that has a path to his dream job. He'll quickly figure out what he needs to become a CEO. CC has a guaranteed admission to state flag ship schools that isn't determined by the SAT.

LAC only if you can lose $90K and wouldn't notice even then I'd worry.

He's a senior, so he must have some idea of what he'd like to do post-graduation. Does he any colleges he's interested in? Any majors he's interested in?

Not cracking 700 is a pretty meaningless bar for any kind of non-STEM degree; I did fine as a history major and then lawyer with a score lower than that.

The interest is more of an issue though. Does he want to work on cars? If he does, he should go learn to do that instead of going to college.
